File difference viewer
Atollic TrueSTUDIO® contains a built-in graphical file difference viewer. It can either visualize differences between two files, or visualize differences between various versions of the same file.
Two files can easily be compared with each other, and the differences are highlighted in the two panes as appropriate. Navigation and update controls are available to move around the detected differences in the files, as well as to merge differing code sections from the one file to the other as needed.
The difference viewer also contains a right margin, with markers that visualize where in the files differences exist. Clicking on a marker automatically scrolls the difference viewer to the selected difference.
Atollic TrueSTUDIO® remembers (a configurable number of) earlier versions of the same file. Every time a file is saved, a backup copy is stored in the background. This enables the possibility to make a travel in time, by visualizing the differences to older versions of the same file.
To compare a file with an earlier version of itself, select the versions to compare in the History view. This view lists all the different times the selected file has been saved previously. Once the versions of a file to compare are selected, the file difference viewer visualizes them in the same way as a comparison between different files.
