The product also comes with C/C++ runtime libraries and readymade boot code that starts on power-on reset and initializes the runtime environment.

The product is based on the GNU command line tools and runtime libraries; all of which are increasingly considered as an industry standard. The tools are nicely wrapped in an ECLIPSE™ IDE, and Atollic provides support for both managed and unmanaged build modes.

  • In managed build mode, project configuration is done from a graphical user interface
  • In unmanaged build mode, project configuration is done manually using a makefile

Both managed and unmanaded build modes support parallell builds, where compilation of many files are started in parallell when the file dependencies allow this. Parallell builds shorten the total build time in many cases.

You can configure any number of build targets that builds the project in different configurations. The build output is displayed in a Console view and any compilation errors are flagged on the offending source code lines in the editor, and are listed in a Problems view too.

In addition to the ARM tools, Atollic TrueSTUDIO® also includes a PC compiler & debugger, thus enabling developers to build and test their embedded code on a personal computer. This feature enables early development before the target H/W is available, and also provides a clean testing environment where software algorithms can be tested without interference from the target environment.
